Meditation Movement Spreads to Workplace

APRIL 2015:

Meditation is no longer reserved for yoga lovers. It’s now extending to the workplace, thanks to consistent studies that conclude that when practised regularly it can support enhanced mental performance, creativity, and reduce stress, among other benefits.

Mindfulness meditation is a form of mental training that supports the mind to be more focussed, clear and effective. Mindfulness is now sweeping across the globe and training has now been implemented in many different sectors including in schools, hospitals, and corporations.

One such example is Brisbane based company Research Nutrition, who has taken part in the Mindful in May meditation program as a team. Mindful in May is a one month global, online mindfulness meditation challenge that brings the benefits of meditation together with an opportunity to contribute to bringing clean, safe drinking water to those living in the developing world.

Research Nutrition’s National Sales Manager and Naturopath Allissa Collier found out about the challenge through a friend and decided to introduce the challenge to the workplace. “I thought it would be a nice way to promote mindfulness in the workplace and in life. It’s also a great initiative for mental health and for clean water”.

Research Nutrition is sponsoring each staff member who wanted to take part. After only one day of announcing the challenge to the staff almost the entire team had signed on. “I am personally really excited to be doing this as a team”, Allissa said.

One in nine people on the planet struggle each day to access clean, safe drinking water. The donations and sponsorship funds raised through Mindful in May will support Charity Water, a not for profit organisation that donates 100% of funds to the water projects.

The Research Nutrition team are inviting friends, family members and clients to join their team and/or donate to the cause.
